Burning Beaches (Budgie Remix)
by DELS feat. Rosie Lowe
— Released 6th November 2014
DELS is like a mind-expanding drug within hip-hop, pushing at its capabilities and making music of luridly colourful vision and vast depth. Burning Beaches comes off like an ultra-modern British blues, imbued with uplifting melancholy and littered with startlingly visual lyrics. DELS is like a mind-expanding drug within hip-hop, pushing at its capabilities and making music of luridly colourful vision and vast depth. Burning Beaches comes off like an ultra-modern British blues, imbued with uplifting melancholy and littered with startlingly visual lyrics. The second single from his sophomore album Petals Have Fallen, the song was produced by Warp wunderkind Kwes, in partnership with CLAVES. A beautiful piano refrain underpins the song, with Kieren Dickin’s lyrics conjuring a mind troubled by love. The chorus is sung by Rosie Lowe, whose breath-of-fresh-air talent bears a natural affinity with DELS’. "After I directed the music video for her debut single "Right Thing", I wrote the hook for "Burning Beaches", and I thought on the set that Rosie Lowe would be a perfect fit for this song. Then all of a sudden it happened, and it came out beautifully." Lowe’s yearning, richly textured voice is certainly the perfect foil for DELS’ introspective imagism.
Remix's come courtesy of Budgie and also FaltyDL, whose recent experiments in future-gazing junglism yield rich results here, tension building and releasing over an 8 minute, electronic masterclass. The forthcoming video is the latest in a line of collaborations with Us Design. If previous videos such as "Trumpalump" are anything to go by, it’ll be a visual piece as breathtaking as "Burning Beaches" deserves.
